Portuguese Day  at  Xavier's

St Xavier’s College, Mapusa in association with Fundação Oriente and Instituto Camões celebrated ‘Portuguese Day’ on December 5^th 2009 in the college hall. The theme of the event was ‘Portugues Sem Fim’, depicting Portuguese culture. The Chief Guest, Consul General of Portugal in Goa, Dr.Paulo Pocinho Neves along with the Guest of Honor, Dr. Adelino Rodrigues da Costa, Delegado, Fundação Oriente, graced the occasion. Dr. Delfim Correia da Silva, Director of Instituto Camões, addressed the public on the influence of Portuguese culture on present day Goa in relation with the theme.

Events and competitions such as painting on clay and ceramic tiles using Portuguese tones (Arte Do Barro, Arte Do Azulejo), Monlogue competition (Monologo), presentations depicting the culture of any Portuguese speaking country or their region (O Expresso de Lusofonia) and many more events were the highlights of the day. Portuguese snacks and desserts making contest was open for the general public (Manjares Portuguses: Petiscos e Sobremesas). The competitions were open for schools, higher secondary schools and colleges.

There was an Exhibition cum Sale of Portuguese books and delicacies.
