Valedictory Session

The valedictory function began after a tea break. The dignitaries were escorted to the dais. Mr. Benedict Soares then introduced the chief quest of the function Mr. V.K. Jha, Secretary, Govt. of Goa. The Guests were presented with potted plants. Ms. Kezia Lopez read the report on the proceedings of the two day seminar. This was then followed by feedback from the participants. Mr Nasseruddin Vice Principal, Poona College gave feedback as a outstation participant, Mr. Atmaram Gaonkar, Govt. Polytechnic, Bicholim gave feedback as a participant from Goa . This was followed by the Chief Guest’s speech. Mr. V.K Jha thanked the college management for inviting him for the function. He complimented the organizers for organizing the seminar. He emphasized that he would like to have more seminars involving students and faculties from various fields. He said that he was happy to see young faces in the seminar. He also said he never gets to interact with the Goan students and stated that he sees bright future in them. He assured that govt. would support such seminars in future and is ready to give a helping hand.

This was followed by the distribution of certificates to the paper presenters. As a memento of appreciation was presented to the Chief Guest. Prof. Newman Fernandes concluded by saying that there were four entities in the organization of this seminar; namely St. Xaviers College, NIO, Directorate of Science and Technology and UGC. He thanked Dr. Lisette D’souza and Dr. Theotone Vaz for co-ordinating the Seminar. He stated that none of the challenges will be met without economic and political support.

The reason for selecting the topic was to focus on the various fields of nanotechnology. He hoped that the participants will take with them enlightening moments. The Principal then expressed his gratitude to all the resource persons and also appreciated the young oral presenters. He then congratulated the students for participating in the Seminar. He stressed on the need to shift from the traditional learning approach to the discussion methodology.

The Principal extended his support by offering new courses in this area so that there is no need for students to go out of Goa . Finally, he thanked everyone, including the staff of NIO, for contributing in making this Seminar a huge success.

Mr. Rajendra Kanekar, the Head of the Department of Physics proposed the vote of thanks.
