Fr Lawrence Mascarenhas, Parish Priest of
St. John de Baptist Church, Pilerne talking with Jason Soares,
TYBA Journalism
Q: How has the pastoral life in the parish
grown?
A: People experience the warmth of love, which
is celebrated in the church and carried out in the various wards. Through them a
lot of work has to be done to make it a more loving and caring parish and by the
grace of God the work will carry on.
Q: What have you done to educate the parishioners?
A: The pastoral vision is deeply rooted in the
Word of God. I have tried to educate the parishioners through faith formation and
during mass. Various activities are planned at the parish pastoral council level
and disseminated at the small Christian community level so that the people actively
participate. We are making a lot of effort to spread the glow of Jesus.
Q: You have been the parish priest for seven
years now and this probably is your last year. Are you satisfied with the work that
you have carried out during your tenure?
A: It is a great feeling to see that the parish
has grown immensely in these last seven years. I strongly believe that God’s grace
along with the co-operation of the parishioners has made it possible to achieve
this feat. The church was renovated with the active participation of the parishioners
and has been given a new facelift. There has been not only an external change, but
also a change in the spiritual dimension as well. I am very pleased and hope that
the parish will scale greater heights in the years to come.
