IGNOU Convergence Scheme
The Indira Gandhi National Open University established by an Act of Parliament
in 1985, is one of the leading Universities in the world with knowledge and
capabilities in the area of open and distance learning. In order to meet the
projected XI plan access rates for tertiary education, it has taken several
steps. During the year 2008-09 a new initiative was taken to involve well
established educational institutions, to achieve the projected targets related
to access and equity in higher education. A convergence between the conventional
university system and the open and the distance learning system through enhanced
and optimal utilisation of physical facilities, intellectual and knowledge
resources in colleges is aimed at through Convergence Scheme St Xavier's
College, Mapusa, Goa is one of the partner institutions chosen by IGNOU, under
Convergence Scheme. As a partner institution St Xavier's College is granted
permission to offer undergraduate, post graduate, certificate and diploma
programms of IGNOU. The Convergence Scheme provides for a combination of printed
self learning course material, face to face academic counseling enabled by
technology.
