“Let us be grateful to the people who make us happy; they are the charming gardeners who make our souls blossom.” ― Marcel Proust
As we gear up for a new academic year 2018-19, I thank the Almighty God for all his blessings on each one of us. The year has been a fantastic one for the Institution with our students bringing laurels to our institution. On the academic front, we secured 16 ranks out of 30 at the 2016-17 Third Year Goa University Examinations. One department that needs mention, the Department of Commerce, alone bagged 8 ranks out of 10, and therefore deserve commendation. Trophies continued to pour in from various co-curricular and extracurricular competitions, and in the field of sports, Goa University crowned us Champions in men’s category. The highlight of the academic year 2017-18 was St. Xavier’s College Library bagging the “Best Library” in the state of Goa award by the Directorate of the Art and Culture, Government of Goa.
It has been a year where the Choice Based Credit System was introduced by Goa University for the undergraduate students. With all the changes that were introduced, it was heartening to see the satisfied faces of our students who were pleased with the choice they were offered. There were many hardships faced to accommodate the students as per their choices, but it was worth the effort. The introduction of CBCS was thus, a milestone achieved successfully.
During the academic year, our students were provided exposure to different industries in Goa as well as in the other states of India. We were also happy to see the beginning of the construction of Block E with financial assistance from RUSA. We are indeed grateful to the government of India and the Government of Goa for providing financial assistance to construct our new building, renovate old structures and procure equipment. Under the CPE (College with Potential for Excellence) we received financial support from the UGC, with the help of which we could upgrade our classrooms, students could avail of educational trips, teachers could participate in national seminars, and at the same time, organize national and state level seminars. The same grant has also allowed us to purchase more equipment for our laboratories, especially the procurement of the XRD machine which will enable us to set up the Instrumentation Centre on our campus.
On the academic front, we have added more numbers to our faculty list of PhD holders. The achievements have been many, but we are not done. We are still hungry to achieve more. This year we have a challenging task as we are getting ready for another visit of NAAC. Our wheels have already started rolling and we are determined to achieve a very high grade.
My staff, teaching as well as non-teaching have been very supportive. Each one has been contributing to the best of their abilities. Our students have been the live wire on campus. Their presence around on campus is highly motivating and their energetic lives compel us to work beyond our schedules. I must make the mention of the new found enthusiastic St. Xavier’s College Alumni Association and ever helping PTA for all their love and concern towards their institution.
As we prepare ourselves for the new Academic Year 2018-19, we extend a warm welcome to our newcomers to our Family at St. Xavier’s College. We wish them an enriching journey in their educational career. We hope that you will continue working for the betterment of our institution. We are all called to work for the vision and mission of our St. Xavier’s College. Let us then join our hands and work towards the progress of the institution so that the St. Xavier’s College flag soars higher and higher in the sky.
