St. Xavier’s College organizes Conference on Folk Elements in Konkani Drama - St. Xavier's College

Goa Konkani Academy, in collaboration with St. Xavier’s College, Mapusa, organised a Conference on the topic “Folk elements in Konkani Drama” on 14th December 2021 at the St. Xavier’s College Seminar Hall.

The Chief Guest at the opening ceremony of the Conference was the President of Goa Konkani Academy and eminent Goan poet, Shri Arun Sakhardande.  The Conference was inaugurrated in the presence of the Principal of St. Xavier’s College Prof. Blanche Mascarenhas, Head of the Department of Konkani,  Mr. Dharma Chodankar and the Coordinator of the Conference, Assistant Prof. Silvester Vaz.

The keynote address was delivered by Dr. Bhushan Bhave.  After the inauguration, Dr. Pandurang Phaldesai spoke on the topic ‘Folk Elements: Concept and Form’ and Dr. Saish Deshpande gave an overview of Indian Folk Theatre. Dr. Jayanti Naik moderated the first part of the Conference.

In the post lunch session, Dr. Purnananda Chari shared his thoughts on Folk Elements in the works of Playwright Pundalik Naik and Dr. Ramita Gurav spoke on the Folk Elements in the Dramas of Playwright Jayanti Naik. Associate Prof. Dharma Chodankar moderated the second session of the Conference.

Administrator of St. Xavier’s College, Rev. Fr. Antonio Salema was present for the closing ceremony.  Head of the Department of Konkani, Mr. Dharma Chodankar proposed the Vote of Thanks.  The programme was compered by Rev. Fr. Luis Gomes and Rev. Fr. Roman Rodrigues.
