Sewing the way to success, a Journalism workshop with Shweta Sequeira - St. Xavier's College
students of Fashion Communication & Journalism enjoyed an interactive
session with Shweta Sequeira, owner of Red Carpet – the Heritage Boutique. The
fashion designer and entrepreneur, who completed her masters in fashion and
apparel design from the Army Institute of Fashion and Design in Bengaluru,
shared anecdotes of her journey to success with the students.
Working towards empowering weavers and promoting khadi, Shweta’s first boutique comprises entirely of garments made from khadi. She purchases and provides the thread to weaves in a small village in Bihar, who then send her the fabric once it is ready. Shweta then cuts the garments and hands them over to her team of tailors to create the final garment, which is sold in her flagship boutique in Anjuna. Catering to tourists and locals alike, Shweta has worked her way to success and now has two other boutiques. While one is exclusively for leather products, the other is a bridal boutique. Having graduated in Mass Communication herself, Shweta also provided tips on how to write features.
