The Department of Journalism organised a day at Navhind Times Office - St. Xavier's College

The students of TYBA Journalism had a knowledge filled session at the Navhind Bhavan, Panjim Goa on March 2019 accompanied by the faculty members Dinesh Nirawdekar, Nitin Volvoikar and Rohan Da’ Costa. The field visit was headed by Ms. Danushka Da Gama, feature editor who walked the students around the Navhind Times office and provided students with appropriate information regarding the functioning and technicalities of Navhind Times newspaper.

The students were introduced to various departments that are required in a news organization. They got the first hand knowledge from the reporters themselves about their experience, their job profile as well as their requirements of the industry. As each beat has a separate department so the working experience, time and knowledge grasped from each one has something new to say. The entire process lined up before the printing that is the use of the software to put the newspapers layout together was also explained with details to the students.

While Ms. Alisha from the Magazine team spoke about the editing of the Kuriosity (supplement) Venita Gomes spoke about the process of covering events and interviews for the magazine. Augusto Rodriguez, the sports editor cleared up doubts raised by the students related to different sports coverage. The crime reporter spoke on how his job of reporting crimes can be a task sometimes.

Navhind times General Manger, with an experience of 32 years in this field, amiably shared all the understanding he had gathered about the news sector over these years. He spoke on issue faced by the Marathi newspaper while how the English newspaper has a circulation which is anytime more than the former. He made sure to not let any doubt of the students go back with them.
