The FYBA students of Mass Communication and Journalism recently attended Google News Initiative, PollCheck: Covering India’s Election, a training workshop to support journalists covering India’s election, Held in partnership with Data Leads and Internews, the sessions were held in Goa on March 23, 2019. Conducted by independent journalists trained by Google, the workshop was at weeding out fake news with an eye on the elections. The workshop included sessions on online verification and fact-checking, journalist digital safety and security, YouTube for elections coverage and data visualization for elections.
The students benefited greatly from sessions held by independent journalists Nupur Sonar and Jisha Krishnan. The session on how to spot fake photographs and videos was especially insightful.
The workshop was part of a series of training events undertaken by Google just before India goes to polls later this month.
