The Department of Microbiology chose “Microbial Bioremediation” as the theme for the National Science Day celebrations on 28th February 2019. A poster competition was organized for the FY and SY students of microbiology, with the objective of generating awareness on the potential that microbes possess in sustainable bioremediation. The participants displayed colourful posters that were artistically designed. Three best posters were awarded cash prizes sponsored by the St. Xaviers College Student Unit of Microbiologists Society of India. The judges were Dr. Naveen Kumar Arora, Ms Elaine Rodrigues Figuereido and Dr. Bhakti Salgaonkar. The programme was conducted by Ms Priyanka Da Costa(TYBSc) and Mr Kamlesh Korgaonkar (TYBSc) under the guidance of Ms Ursula Barreto.
A National Level Seminar on the same theme was also organized wherein undergraduate / post graduate students and research scholars participated in poster paper presentations showcasing their research work on microbial bioremediation.
