A certificate course on making wine was conducted by the Microbiology Department for the students of the college, from 14th August to 4th September 2018. A total of 45 students registered on paying a fee of Rs. 300 each. The coordinator briefed the students on the various stages in the manufacture and the precautions to be taken for making a good wine through a power point presentation. The possibility of manufacturing different medicinal and exotic wines for a niche market was also explained. The students got hands – on experience in making wine from Black Currant and Sweet corn. The substrates were processed and fermented in the laboratory, and the students were able to visually experience the changes occurring during the fermentation process. After completion of the fermentation, each student carried home the finished product. Individual certificates were distributed to the students. Students were urged to each prepare a label for their wine bottles which was later pasted on the product. The course was co-ordinated by Ms. Arina Frank.
