The Department of Philosophy organized two sessions for FYBA Generic Elective and Core students on “Coping with Exam Stress” on 10th and 11th October 2018 respectively. The sessions were conducted by the College Counsellor, Mr Sigmund Dias.
It has been generally observed that students experience stress whilst preparing for the Semester examinations. Mr Dias cheerfully guided the students on how to beat the stress effectively and enhance their performance for exams. He investigated the reasons for stress which could range from not possessing complete study material, not studying at regular intervals, comparing exam preparations with each other, failing to acknowledge the differences of mental makeup amongst students, etc.
To combat stress, Mr Dias advised students to plan their studies effectively by breaking down the portion in smaller parts, to study the favourite papers first and gradually build a tempo for others, sleep well, eat foods which are healthy as fruits and avoid junk foods totally. To always keep a positive outlook saying to yourself continuously “I can study this” and rooting out negative thoughts as “I cannot study this”. He implored students to remember that they are surrounded by a circle of loving family, friends, teachers and college counsellors. They could seek help from anyone and never feel neglected and alone.
The sessions ended with an active interaction between Mr Dias and the students.
