The Seminar Hall of St. Xavier’s College, Mapusa was abuzz with excitement and eager curiosity, on the bright afternoon of Saturday, 21 July 2018. In its inaugural offering since its inception in the academic year 2018-19, the Cell for Student Engagement and Enrichment, C-SEE presented an enlightening session on ‘Financial Wisdom’ for the students of Third Year, Bachelor of Commerce.
The session began with an address by the Principal of the college, Rev. Fr. (Dr.) Jeronimo D’Silva, in which the students were inspired to look beyond their academic syllabus, to imbibe lessons from life. The faculty C-SEE team was congratulated by the Principal for planning such pertinent sessions with the aim of guiding students towards achieving crucial ‘life skills’.
Dr. Marielou Ferrao then introduced to the audience, and extended a warm welcome to, the Resource Person of the day,
This was followed by an insightful and informative session by Mr. Lawrence Fernandes Mr. Lawrence Fernandes, Manager – HDFC Asset Management Ltd.
Mr. Fernandes focused on the importance of saving, the need to diversify an investment portfolio and the crucial difference made by beginning financial investment and management early in life. The Resource Person highlighted interesting statistical data of the investment pattern in our country and also led the audience through the distinct investment avenues available, along with their relative merits and demerits. He captured the attention of the audience with a pertinent video that depicted the balance between risky and fixed investment options to selecting the right mix of players in a football team.
The session was educative and opened the window to help the young audience discover the numerous attractive investment schemes available to them. By bringing into focus the need for prudence while taking financial decisions, it stirred the audience and left its imprint on their minds. The programme was compered by Ms. Lynessa Lynette Linson. The programme was co-ordinated by the C-SEE team led by Dr. Prema Rocha.
