In recognition of the significance of research, the Department of English began its activities for the year on an academic note with a lecture on ‘Contemporary Vistas in Literary Research’. The session was organised on 2nd July 2018, for students electing to carry out a project in English Literature as part of the TYBA course.
In his address, Principal Fr. Dr. Jeronimo D’Silva highlighted the objectives of research. He noted that to be really relevant, research has to impact society at large. With this end in mind he encouraged students to publish their research findings. Dr. Prema Rocha, Head of the Department of English, welcomed those present.
The resource person was alumnus of REVA University, Bangalore and published young scholar, Mr Shoanon Gonsalves. Mr. Gonsalves focused on the global trends in English Literature research, mainly postmodernism, feminism, LGBTQ writing, diasporic writing, comparative studies, revisionist writing, etc. He stressed that while the internet is a valuable source of information, one needs to be discerning and subscribe to verifiable sites. He shared useful websites that students could consult for their research. He also addressed issues of plagiarism and fair use, in the Q and A session. Ms. Shirlene P.
