Dept. of Geography organises state-level GeoFest 2018 - St. Xavier's College

The nature is crying and St. Xavier’s college was wise enough to hear that cry like a dutiful child, we sought to console our weeping mother earth.

Geofest-2018 a one day second edition, an intercollegiate state level event organised by the Department of Geography to explore, motivate and enhance geographical skills among students and also provide opportunity for interaction, was held on 13th March 2017 at St. Xavier’s college, Mapusa.

The main objective of the event is to create awareness on environmental issues through various competitions i.e. Debate, Quiz, Seminar presentation, Poster making, Street play, monologue, poetry, crossword, Treasure hunt, extempore speech and Diverse countries cultural fashion show.

The Vice Principal of the college Dr. Maria Fonseca welcomed the audience and participants from various colleges, highlighted the importance of natural resources clean and green environment and how mother earth is blessing us in many ways in our daily lives.

Dr. D.M. Jakati Convenor and coordinator highlighted the importance of the subject and purpose of the event and introduced the Chief Guest Mr. Claude Alvares.

The key note address was delivered by an eminent environmental activist of the state of Goa, Mr. Claude Alvares on various environmental issues and problems of Goa is facing today. He enlightened the audience through his rich experience and presentation, stressed on the need to preserve forests, water bodies and other natural resources of the state.

In all large number of students from 10 colleges and students of Fy/Sy.B.A. B.Com.,T.y.BA Ecology and Geography of St. Xavier’s actively participated in the event Over all Winners Trophy was bagged by the students of. Nirmala institute of Education, Panaji, Goa. followed by C.E.S. College of Arts and Commerce, Cuncolim. Won the runners up trophy for securing second place overall. Mr Sherwin Lobo student Chief Coordinator saw the vent is well organised.
